The Autumn Candy Dish

Dear Lovely,

In the September 2019 issue of The Art of Living Beautifully magazine, I published this mix (I can’t really call it a recipe) as a sweet and salty bite to enjoy during the ‘ber months. It’s a combination of salted almonds, Rolos, and candy corn. Here are the original pictures I published, using an antique cast iron cornbread mold to display them. I love these pictures. They make feel so nastalgic. ☺️

For this updated 2026 version, I’ve substituted the almonds for peanuts, because I love mixing candy corn and peanuts.

FUN FACT:

if you eat a mix of candy corn and peanuts in the same bite, it tastes like a Payday

Keeping a candy dish filled with treats is something I always like to have in my home. In fact, I’ve updated my blog post: Elegant and Lived In, to include keeping a candy dish filled and available as one of the ways I accomplish this. As someone who loves feeding people, providing a candy dish for guests to enjoy allows me to feed anyone who visits, even if the occassion doesn’t call for an actual meal. At our home, I want anyone who visits to feel fulfilled; and I use candy dishes to help me accomplish this. From now on, I’ll publish a fun seasonal mix to put in our candy dishes. Something that says “Welcome. Have a sweet treat. Stay a while.”

Use whatever vessel or dish you have available to you. We have several at our house that I use including this beautiful crystal biscuit jar I purchased from a vintage dealer over the summer. Add a little scoop or a spoon if you’re worried about germs.

Do you have any seasonal mixes you like to leave out for guests to enjoy?
